Over Two Hundred Children of Divine Home Atan Ofot, Uyo have been educationally equipped for the new academic session by the wife of Akwa Ibom governor, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel.
At the event tagged 'Back to School Project 2' , the items presented were school boxes, bags, biro and books, Math sets, mattresses and pillows, uniforms, toiletries etc.
Speaking, the governor's wife said it was necessary their educational materials be provided so they could concentrate on their studies. She reassured the children of her commitment to their welfare, saying they hold a special place in her heart.
While cautioning them not to indulge in behaviors that could hinder their success , Mrs. Emmanuel advised that they study hard, be obedient to their teachers and most importantly fear God. She rewarded children who excelled in the last academic session, promising to do same at the end of the new session.
The First Lady appreciated the coordinator and staff of the home for their commitment towards the children praying that God will reward their labor of love.
In her goodwill message, the Hon. Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr Glory Edet thanked the governor , Mr Udom Emmanuel for his support towards ensuring that every Akwa Ibom child lives a good life, and specially commended the governor's wife for being a mother to all Akwa Ibomite.
Dr. Edet noted that Eight homes with over 700 children were currently under the care of the state government, advising the children to repay the governor and wife in good faith by studying the books.
Earlier, the coordinator of the Home, Mrs. Ime Inyang thanked the governor's wife for her benevolence towards the children of the Home, pointing out that she has provided the home with a utility vehicle to aide movement in the home.
The programme which had support from the MTN foundation saw the elated children performed songs while the governor's wife danced with them.
