The Honorable Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Onofiok Luke, Wednesday morning, hurried out of a meeting to address members of the Taxi Drivers Association in Akwa Ibom state who had led a peaceful protest to the State House of Assembly complex to complain against what they described as the “illegal and multiple taxation” by the State Ministry of Transport.
The Commercial taxi drivers demanded the intervention of the House in the situation to save them from “exploitation”.
Barr. Onofiok Luke , while addressing the drivers, urged them to properly address their grievances especially by first complaining to the state ministry of transportation.
He demanded the union to write formally to the Ministry of Transport and copy the House as well as Governor Udom Emmanuel, assuring them that given the authenticity of their complaints, the House as well as the State Governor was going to speed up necessary actions to address the situation.
The Honorable Speaker was accompanied by his colleagues, Hon. (Barr) Aniefiok Dennis(Member, Etinan), Hon. Asuquo Archibong (Member, Urue Offong/Oruko).
