Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo, the political leader of Ikono Local Government Area falls into the cast of few contemporary leaders that are willing and determined to pay the supreme price for leadership.
Obong Ukpong-udo popularly called Macaire was on July 18, 2015 formally recognized; honoured, and mandated to function as the
substantive Political Leaders of Ikono Local Government by Ikono people.
One year on the saddle, he has distinguished himself exceptionally as a leader, surpassing the expectation of many.
In one year, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo has shown practically that the heart of good leadership is to serve the course of the people.
He has raised the hope of his people, stabilized the polity, evolved encompassing political strategies and empowered countless youths in the area.
Macaire as he is fondly called considers his position as the Political Leader of Ikono as a call to service, selfless service and more
service to humanity.
He sees his position as a privilege to render
service, and give back to the society beyond what he ever received from the society.
This line of nuggets shapes his overall approach and influences his relationship with others.
Obong Ukpong-udo belongs to John Maxwell school of thought “Leaders become great not because of their power but because of their ability to empower others”.
It is on record that prior to stepping into the big shoes of the Political Leader, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo was in the habit of giving hope to the hopeless and succor to those that have
none.
Presently, he has extended the frontiers of his charity and philanthropy to many and has continued to empower youths, women thereby contributing greatly to the socio-economic empowerment of his people.
Obong Ukpong-Udo is indeed a leader of extraordinary qualities.

Today Ikono Local Government Area is one of the most politically organized areas in the State, with clearly laid down political zoning
and sharing principles.
This has reduced possible political feud; thereby enhancing peace, progress and political stability of the area.
This genuine political stability, which will likely outlive many, is attributed to effective and articulate leadership provided by the Political Leader of Ikono – Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo.
The Leadership of Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo has received the blessings of Ibibio Leaders under the aegis of Uyo Senatorial District Leaders Forum, and the Ibibio Monarchs. He has been copiously recognized by the State Government and the People Democratic Party in the State as the Leader of Ikono.
Obong Ukpong-udo is determined to deploy his skills, experiences and vigor to galvanize Ikono and situate it at a pedestal that would make
the area impossible to ignore in the scheme of things politically.
He has vowed to position Ikono in the right spectrum for the good of the people.
He is working assiduously to restore Ikono to its rightful glory as the Ntippe Ibibio.
