Ahead of commomeration of World Youth Skills Day in Akwa Ibom, Skill Development Centre Project in collaboration with Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths and Empowerment has Inaugurated a central planning committee with a responsibility of planning the hitch free event in Akwa Ibom State.
Inaugurating the committee, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Skill Development in the state Rev Marjorie Abasidiong told the Central planning committee to remember that skill development is a primary means of enabling young people to make a smooth transition to work. As such, the issue of unemployment is a major concern for both industrialised and developing countries.
She therefore charged the committee to put in place an eventful celebration of the UN Chater. The UN estimates that the number of unemployed youth globally reached 74.5 million in 2013, the majority of whom live in developing countries. According to the International Labour organization, young people are almost three times more likely to be unemployed than adults. One in five youths, or 125 million, are working but live in extreme poverty (on less than US$1/day).
The committee is comprised of Pastor Godwin George who serves as the Chairman, other members of the Committee are Mr Utitofon Morgan Ukpong, Mrs (Deaconess) Joy Iniobong, Mr Mbuotidem Obo and Ubong Samuel James.
The event is billed for 15th July 2016 in Akwa Ibom State since in December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring 15th July as World Youth Skills Day.
