EFCC Boss Fights Back, Rubbishes Presidency, Leaks APC’s Official Secret

The embattled Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has on Thursday, June 23, leaked to the public, the purportedly official secret of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement issued by the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, Mr. Magu, stated that some of his associates especially within the Presidency and the ruling APC, are using his name to seek for favour, and most times hoodwink unsuspecting people of their hard earned money.
The EFCC boss who had come under scrutiny, following allegations of bribery against him, said some of the people known to have relationship with him, have been extorting money from suspects under investigation.
Meanwhile, SaharaReporters, revealed that Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, along with the Director General, DG, Department of State Security, DSS, have commenced a full-scale war against the EFCC Chairman.
Sources at the Presidency, said that there has been a cold war between Magu, and members of the President’s kitchen cabinet, who seek to interfere with on-going corruption cases at the EFCC.
Magu, was said to have stepped on their toes, by constantly questioning why they usurped the role of the EFCC, in carrying out raids into the homes of corrupt former government officials, which is the domain of the EFCC.
The DSS, reportedly raided at least 30 homes of officials and aides of former President, Goodluck Jonathan, but only managed to deliver a meager N47 million and $1.943 million.
Worse still, some of the monies recovered, were allegedly never delivered to the Federal Government treasury, and during reconciliation, some of the foreign currencies were found to be fake.
In a swift reaction, deploying a little bit of diversionary tactics to hit hard at the presidency, Magu said; “It has come to the attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, that some unscrupulous individuals now parade the streets, posing as representatives of the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, and extorting money from persons under investigation, promising them a soft-landing, and in some instances, giving them assurances that their cases would be closed.
“Intelligence available to the commission, indicates that some of them who are known to have relationships with the Acting Chairman are exploiting this knowledge to position themselves as agents of the anti-graft czar, to extort desperate suspects under investigation by the commission.
“In the recent past, the commission notified the public of the activities of some individuals, who cloned the phone number of Magu, using same to illegally solicit funds.
“Some even opened fake facebook accounts in the name of the EFCC boss, and proceeded to use same to con unsuspecting citizens. But despite the alarms, it would seem that criminal minds are not deterred, as their number seemed to have swelled.
“The commission, for the umpteenth time, wishes to warn members of the public not to fall for the wiles of fraudsters and scammers, exploiting the good name of the Acting EFCC Chairman, to defraud desperate citizens.
“Mr Magu has not and will never mandate any individual to demand gratification from persons under investigation,” the statement read.
