For voting and supporting the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel, Akwa Ibom people have incurred the wrath of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress Arc Otu Ita Toyo who has described them as stupid and foolish people.
Toyo made clear his opinion during a radio interview programme ‘Team Nigeria’ hosted on a private radio station in Uyo.
Toyo who was asked by the interviewer Mr Aniekan Udosen if he could make it back on the programme in a few days, expressed his reluctance to feature on the programme again.
According to him, “Akwa Ibom people are stupid, they don’t know jack (anything), they cannot read, they can’t think and they can’t write.”
Toyo was quick to however attribute it to the state governor, by adding that the problem (of illiteracy)is traceable to leadership.
“The Akwa Ibom People they can’t read, they can’t read; they can’t write they can’t listen, they can’t learn they can’t do jack. And you know why? Leadership has been bleak”
The former PDP state chairman who has not hidden his disdain for the current administration following his inability to install his candidate Mr Umana Umana, had earlier attacked Akwa Ibom people as people who sought for amnesty for those who looted the treasury. He also blamed Akwa Ibom people as those seeking for life pension for National Assembly members.
Not done, Toyo went on to take a swipe on the people, describing them in very derogatory terms as people who now travel out of the country to sleep with women of low virtues.
“Akwa Ibom people have said we want amnesty for looters, Akwa Ibom is now involved in a sex scandal which is international in nature, and I think we should pray for our brother and hope that the Americans made a mistake, because if they did not make a mistake that will be extremely terrible”
He faulted the extension of tenure of transition committees in the state blaming it on what he described as ignorance by the state lawmakers.
“Most of the gentlemen, with all due respect, in the house of assembly, I’m not sure understand the real legalities around the issues they discuss, because that is a patently unconstitutional act. And to have come from a House of Assembly is the most deprecating action. One can bring up the fact that other governments have not done this, but this was a terrible thing for it to have come from the legislators. It is unconstitutional and very terrible,” he roared.
The APC chieftain also accused the incumbent of purposefully delaying local government elections and dabbling into funds meant for the third tier of government.
