AKHA BEGINS AUDIT OF ROAD MIANTENANCE EQUIPMENTS ACQUIRED BY GOVT


The chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport, Hon. Idongesit Ituen, has commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for prompt release of funds to Akwa Ibom State Roads and Other Infrastructure Maintenance Agency for the procurement of road maintenance equipments for the maintenance of roads in the state.
Hon. Ituen gave the commendation,Wednesday shortly after embarking on an on the spot audit of construction equipments at the plant yard of the agency located at Ifa Atai Etoi in Uyo.

Addressing newsmen, the lawmaker who is representing Itu in the House of Assembly, explained that the inspection tour which continues on thursday is to enable the House of Assembly ascertain the state of equipments acquired by government for road maintenance in the state. He hinted that the assembly committee was interested in ensuring that deplorable roads are fixed to enable the people of the state enjoy good roads.
The House Committee had expressed worry that such magnitude of equipments were in the yard and had not been put to use by the agency, and vowed to ensure that the machines were deployed for the purpose they were meant for as soon as possible to enable Akwa Ibom people derive benefit from the huge investment of government in the acquisition of the construction euipment.

In his words " We want to appreciate the governor for releasing funds for the agency to get the equipments to be able to maintain our roads. We have seen the equipments and you where with us, its very open.
"Tomorrow we are going and we will also inspect the remaining equipment and check their state so they can be used to maintain roads for the good of Akwa Ibom people".
"The inspection tour will continue on thursday, then we will give our final impression then draw up a strategy to see how we can help government reach out to the people before thr rainy season set it". He added.

Conducting the lawmakers round the plant site at Ifa Etoi,  the Director General, Akwa Ibom Roads and Other Infrastructure Maintenance Agency,  Dr. Deen Udom, explained that new equipments have been acquired by the current administration in addition to the one's earlier provided by thr previous administration. He said non release of funds was hampering smooth operation, and assured that soon the agency will move its equipments out for the purpose of road maintenance.

Members of the committee assisted by the consultant, took inventory of machines available at the plant yard to ascertain their state and promsed to return,( today) thursday for continuation of the exercise.
The Committee members who accompanied the Chairman on the inspection visit include,  Hon. Usoro Akpan Usoh, Hon. Otobong Jonathan and Clerk of the committee Mrs. Idungafa.
