Engr. William Ikpe Emerges As CNPP Chairman #AkwaIbomIsPDP



The Chairman of the Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA) in Akwa Ibom State, Engr. William Ikpe, has emerged as the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Congress of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), in a poll supervised by representatives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Secretary General of CNPP, Chief Willy Ezugwu; Rt. Hon Anietie Etuk, Special Adviser to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Political and Legislative Affairs; Obong Paul Ekpo, Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Committee/PDP State Chairman, as well as chairmen of registered political parties in the state.
 
Speaking at the event which took place in Uyo, the CNNP national secretary, Chief Willy Ezugwu, commended the chairmen of parties for agreeing to work collectively under the CNPP platform, and noted that their gesture should be emulated in a bid to deepen Nigeria’s nascent democracy.
 
Ezugwu while disclosing that he was directed by the national chairman of CNPP, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, to come to the state and  conduct the poll, also  announced that the former exco of the group had to be cancelled because it did not meet up with the rules and regulations of CNPP.
 
He charged members to conduct themselves appropriately in the contests.
 
On his part, Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Political and Legislative Affairs, Rt. Hon. Anietie Etuk, welcomed the CNNP scribe to the state and promised to use his office and vast political experience to strengthen CNPP in the state.
 
He commended INEC and CNPP for sending representatives from the national level to conduct the polls.
 
In the polls, Engr. William Ikpe of PPA emerged as Chairman while Dr. Effiong Ekaeba and Joe Itiaba of Accord Party were elected as Deputy Chairman and Secretary General respectively.
Other appointed officers are: John Duke of ADC, Assistant Secretary; Barr Uno Uno of PDP, Legal Adviser; Ubong Eberefiak of NNPP, Treasurer; Pastor Ekomobong Akpan of Alliance for Democracy (AD), Financial Secretary; Frederick Ekere of Peoples for Democratic Change(PDC), Welfare Officer; Barr. Mfon Peter of UDP, Publicity Secretary; Reverend Aniekan Obot of SDP, Organizing Secretary.
 
Others are:  Comrade Stern Etim of Labour Party (LP), Director of Mobilization; Rev Aniebet Michael of Peoples Redemption Party, Director of Media and Publicity; Otuekong Cyril Ekpo of UPN, Director of Socials/ events management; and Hon.Friday Nkanta of ACPN, Ex-Officio.
 
Administering oath of allegiance on the elected officers, the CNNP national secretary, Chief Willy Ezugwu, charged them to be of good conduct even as he expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the poll.
 
Responding on behalf of the elected officers, the newly elected Chairman, Engr. William Ikpe, thanked members for deeming him fit to lead CNPP in the state, and promised never to betray the huge confidence reposed in him.
      
While promising to offer an all-inclusive leadership, Ikpe urged parties which pulled out of the forum to sheath swords and stop running a parallel government.
 
In their separate remarks, the Special Adviser to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Inter-Party Affairs, Comrade Lawrence Udoh and State PDP Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo, who is also Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Committee, harped on the need to use the CNPP platform to explore strategies to fast-track the nurturing of democratic tolerance in the state.
 
They equally commended members for being committed to the progress of CNPP, and promised to use their respective positions in promoting the forum.
