The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel Thursday charged students of Akwa Ibom origin studying in various tertiary institutions in the country to put in their best in their academics as they return to their different campuses
Emmanuel spoke through his Special Assistant on Students Matters, Comrade Aquila Otobong Akpan when he gave student leaders 100 bags of rice, 3 cows and cash to students to support the students' welfare, especially as the new academic session begins.
The Governor's aide dismissed the allegations against her that the bags of rice which were to be shared to the students earlier on were sold for selfish interests.
Addressing the students on behalf of the Governor, Comrade Akpan lamented the ploy by some persons in the corridor of power to deliberately frustrate her efforts to unite students in the state.
She reaffirmed her determination to remain committed to effective representation of Akwa Ibom State Students, as a bridge, working hand in hand with relevant government agencies to achieve Governor Udom Emmanuel's vision for Education in the state.
Also addressing the student leaders, Special Assistant to the Governor, Media, Mr Aniekeme Finbarr appreciated the students for the love in turning up for the occasion at short notice and respecting the governor's representative.
Finbarr noted that the governor is the "most youth friendly governor of all time" as he finds no difficulty in working with young, intelligent persons.
He announced the Governor's commitment to improving the quality of students via scholarships, sponsorship packages and bursary incentives.
Student Leaders took their turns to appreciate the Governor's gesture; Comrade Mfon Umoh President of University of Uyo Chapter of the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Student (NAAKISS) opened the floor, and was followed by Comrade Etuk Joseph President of Students Union Government (SUG) in the Institution.
Others who spoke at the occasion were the Vice President Miss Omofon Mark speaking on behalf of female students and former NAAKISS President Comrade David Effiong speaking on behalf of Stakeholders.
