Lassa Fever is an acute viral illness caused by Lassa virus
The Akwa Ibom State Government has urged citizens and residents of the state to henceforth stop “drinking or smoking garri ” until the cases of “lasa fever” his brought to control.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong asserted this while on a live interview on Atlantic FM 104.5 Uyo. He said the endemic called lasa fever kill faster than HIV and AIDS. He also warned the people of the state against eating “rat or bushmeat”
The commissioner who confirmed that so far cases of lasa fever has been reported and confirmed by the state ministry of health said, “unfortunately one of the three patients has died.” He urged residents of the state to keep their environment clean for a healthy society.
The commissioner also urged Akwa Ibom people and residents of the state to call the following number for prompt intervention.
