Nigerian stars John Ogu and Anthony Nwakaeme scored for Hapoel Be’er Sheva who beat Budapest Honved of Hungary 3-2 away to win 5-3 on aggregate in the 2017/2018 UEFA Champions League second qualifying round on Wednesday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
A brace from Nwakaeme and a goal from Ogu secured Hapoel’s passage into the third round.
Davide Lanzafame and Botond Barath got Honved’s goals.
Hapoel raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Ogu and Nwakaeme in the 12th and 16th minutes respectively before Lanzafame made it 2-1 on the stroke of half time from the penalty spot.
Barath equalised for Honved in the 73rd minute to bring the score to 2-2.
But with six minutes remaining, Nwakaeme grabbed his second goal, to give Hapoel the win. Hapoel will face Bulgaria’s Ludogorets in the third qualifying round.
Nigerian forward Yusuf Otubanjo scored for his Slovakian club Zilina in their 2-1 away win against Copenhagen of Denmark but it was not enough as Zilina crashed out 4-3 on aggregate.
Former Golden Eaglets and Nigeria U-23s star Otubanjo gave Zilina a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute but Benjamin Verbic equalised for Copenhagen from the penalty spot on 48 minutes.
Zilina went 2-1 up through Filip Kasa in the 57th minute but Copenhagen held on to advance into the next stage.
Scottish champions Celtic hammered visiting Linfield 4-0 to go through on 6-1 aggregate.
Goals from Scott Sinclair (fourth and 54th minutes), Tom Rogic (47th minute) and Stuart Amstrong (90th minute) sealed the emphatic win for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
In other results, Rosenborg edged Dundalk 2-1 to progress 3-2 on aggregate, Apoel Nicosia pipped F91 Dudelange 1-0 away to qualify 2-0 on aggregate, Ludogoret qualified 5-3 on aggregate against Zalgiris Vilnius after winning the return leg 4-1.
Legia Warszawa smashed IFK Mariehamn 6-0 for a 9-0 aggregate score, Salzburg defeated Hibernians 3-0 and qualified on 6-0 aggregate scoreline, Zrinjski Mostar drew 1-1 away to Maribor but lost 3-2 aggregate, while Kukesi beat FC Sheriff 2-1 but went out on the away goals rule after losing the first leg 1-0.
