Solanke Fires Liverpool Past Palace Into PL Asia Trophy Final

Liverpool defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 in the second Premier League Asia Trophy match on Wednesday at the Hong Kong Stadium, Hong Kong, China.

England youth international with Nigerian blood, Dominic Solanke, and Divock Origi scored the goals in the second half.

New signing Mohamed Salah was in good form for the Reds and created some decent scoring chances for his new teammates as he operated from the right side of the attack.

Daniel Sturridge was presented with the first chance in the game in the 13th minute but his shot was deflected by Palace’s Scott Dann.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made some notable changes in the second half with Phillipe Coutinho and new signing from Chelsea Solanke some of the players that were introduced in the second half.

Solkanke broke the deadlock in the 61st minute when he unleashed a powerful shot at the edge of the Palace box after a backheel from Divork Origi.

Grujic tried to double the Reds’ goal in the 72nd minute but his 35-yard shot was off target but it was Origi who grabbed the second of the match seven minutes later. Countiho’s shot was initially blocked and the ball hit Solanke and bounced graciously in front of Origi who fired the ball home from close range.

Liverpool will face Leicester City in the final of the pre-season tournament on Saturday after the Foxes booked their place in the final with a 7-6 penalty shootout victory over West Bromwich Albion in the first game on Wednesday. West Brom will play against Crystal Palace in the losers’ final same day.
