Simon Confident Gent Will Reach Europa Play-Offs Despite Home Draw

By James Agberebi:

Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has expressed confidence that KAA Gent can still qualify for the play-offs of the 2017/2018 UEFA Europa League despite being held 1-1 at home by Altach of Austria in their third qualifying round on Thursday.

Gent had to rely on a 76th minute equaliser from Kalifa Coulibaly to cancel out Louis Clement Ngwat-Mahop’s five minutes opener for Altach in the first leg.

Simon and fellow Nigerian Samuel Kalu (subbed on in the second half) were in action for Gent, while another Nigerian Anderson Esiti was benched.

“The whole team was strong,” Simon told Gent’s official website.

“After this difficult game we have to focus on qualification next week. We failed to finish our chances. But I think it is all about  having faith.”

The return leg comes up next Thursday with the winners progressing into the play-offs.
