Sam Sodje: Super Eagles’ Future Bright, More Nigerian Players Will Join Big Clubs

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Former Super Eagles defender, Sam Sodje, believes more Nigerian players will join the likes of Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho as Stars of  big European clubs, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The defender capped four times by Nigeria however feels it will not be easy to break into big clubs, but considers it a possibility.

“The transfer of Nigerian players have been better than a couple of years ago when we hardly see any Nigerian moving,” the former Portsmouth, Charlton Athletic and West Brom central defender tells Completesportsnigeria.com.‎

“It’s not been easy, but with time, I’m sure we will get there. Nigeria have been lacking players in top flight clubs, but right now we have a lot of players coming through and it will not be long before one of these youngsters break into the big clubs again.

“A club like Everton have been doing well in the transfer market and they signed Henry Onyekuru before loaning him out to Anderlecht That was a good signing from the Nigerian perspective because Everton are ambitious.

“There will surely be more that will play in big clubs again like Victor Moses (Chelsea), Alex Iwobi (Arsenal) and Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City),” Sodje, the younger of Efe Sodje who himself (Efe) was in Nigeria’s 2002 FIFA World Cup squad stated.
