Onuachu Strikes As Midtjylland Win Europa Clash; Simon, Balotelli Score In Friendly

Nigerian striker, Paul Onuachu, scored for his Danish club Midtjylland who came from two goals down to beat 10-man Ferencvaros of Hungary 4-2 in the first leg of their Europa League second qualifying round tie on Thursday.

Also in action for Midtjylland was Onuachu’s Nigerian teammate, Rilwan Hassan, who was played for 90 minutes.

Ferencvaros went 1-0 up through Endre Botka in the 22nd minute before Roland Varga made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute.

On the stroke of halft-ime, Ferencvaros were reduced to 10 men following the sending off of Julian Koch.

In first half added time Midtjylland pulled a goal back thanks to Jakob Poulsen who converted from the penalty spot.

In the 61st minute, Poulsen scored his second goal to draw Midtjylland level before completing his hat-trick on 67 minutes from another penalty.

And one minute to the end of the game Onuachu grabbed Midtjylland’s fourth to secure the win.

Midtjylland will host Ferencvaros in the reverse fixture next Thursday.

In the first qualifying round, Onuachu scored a hat-trick as Midtjylland thrashed Northern Ireland’s Derry City 4-1 in the second leg of their qualifier.

Midtjylland advanced 10-2 on aggregate after winning the first leg 6-1.

Also on Thursday, Super Eagles forward Moses Simon was on target as his Gent side lost 3-2 to Ligue 1 club Nice in a pre-season friendly.

Birger Verstraete opened scoring for Gent in the 13th minute but Italy striker Mario Balotelli eaqualised four minutes before the break. Nice the went ahead through Arnauld Souquet in the 52nd minute before Simon drew Gent level in the 66th minute.
Alassane Plea scored the winner in the 90th minute for the French side.
