Nigerian forward Anthony Nwakaeme scored for home side Hapoel Be’er Sheva who defeated Bulgaria’s Ludogorets Razgrad 2-0 in their first leg, third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League clash on Wednesday.
Also in action for Hapoel Be’er Sheva was Super Eagles midfielder John Ogu who alongside Nwakaeme played for 90 minutes.
Nwakaeme scored in the 19th minute to give Hapoel Be’er Sheva a 1-0 lead in the first half.
And in the 79th minute, Michael Ohana who came on as a second half substitute, made it 2-0 in favour of the Israeli champions.
The goal was Nwakaeme’s third in the Champions League so far after scoring a brace in Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s 3-2 away win against Hungary’s Budapest Honved in the second leg, second qualifying round.
The return leg between Hapoel Be’er Sheva and Ludogorets comes up on August 2 in Bulgaria.
The winners over two legs between the two teams will advance into the play-off round.
In the second qualifying round, Hapoel Beer Sheva eliminated Hungary’s Budapest Honved 5-3 on aggregate to get to the third qualifying round.
In other first leg third qualifying round games earlier on Wednesday, FC Astana of Kazakhstan beat visiting Legia Warszawa 3-1, Dynamo Kyiv of Ukraine playing at home defeated Young Boys of Switzerland 3-1 and Austria’s Salzburg were forced to a 1-1 draw at home by Croatia’s Rijeka.
