NPFL ROUNDUP | FC Ifeanyi Ubah destroys Enyimba, MFM Soars

 

The Nnewi based FC Ifeanyi Ubah yesterday defeated the hard fighting Enyimba International FC of Aba by a lone goal in the NPFL match day 29 game which took place at Ifeanyi Ubah International stadium, Nnewi-Ozubulu.

The only goal of the action soaked encounter came from FC Ifeanyi Ubah goal machine, Obaje Godwin, in the 49th minute, to increase his goal haul in the season to twelve.

The Anambra Warriors started the encounter on a very fast pace, thereby sealing their opponents to their own half of the pitch, except for occasional forays of attack from Mfon Udoh, who led the attack line of the visitors.

Prince Aggreh’s brilliant run in the opening minute of the game was blocked by the defence of the visitors, resulting into a corner kick, the move attracted a standing ovation from the supporters and fans of the Anambra Warriors, who kept urging their darling team on.

Midfielder, Luamba Ugoma, also had his opportunity of getting the opener in the 3rd minute of play, but goal keeper Theophilus Afelokha rose to the occasion.

In other results, NPFL leaders, Plateau United, slipped again, after they fell 0-1 at Niger Tornadoes just as second-placed MFM reduced the gap at the top to a mere two points with Akwa United also within a striking distance.

Plateau United remain top of the standings on 51 points, but Akwa United shot to third place with 46 points after they thrashed troubled Gombe United 3-0.

MFM FC consolidated their second spot on the log with 49 points, courtesy of Stephen Odey’s 17th goal of the season against visiting Wikki Tourists.

Gombe crashed 3-0 at Akwa United and ABS could not beat Rivers United in Ilorin after a game ended in a scoreless draw.
