Plateau United are looking to extend their lead at the top of the Nigerian Professional Football League with win over Niger Tornadoes, but any slip up and MFM could close the gap to two points should they pip Wikki Tourists at the Agege Township Stadium Lagos in today’s Nigeria Professional Football League matchday -29 clash, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Kennedy Boboye’s side maintained their lead at the top of the NPFL with an emphatic win over title rivals Akwa United last week and lead with a five-point gap.
Niger Tornadoes on the other hand just cannot seem to get the results to match their performances. They have lost three of their last five games, winning one and drawing one. They played well against Enyimba in Calabar last time out, but still managed to leave without a point at the UJ Esuene Stadium.
In 14 NPFL home games, Niger Tornadoes have not lost at home this season and they have recorded (four points) one win and a draw away from home.
Seven-time Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Enyimba returned to winning ways with a bang, brushing aside Niger Tornadoes 3-0, but it does not come any harder than an away clash against FC IfeanyiUbah who have just one win in their last five games.
Gbenga Ogunbote’s men have a superior head to head advantage winning one more game than FC IfeanyiUbah in their last seven meetings. The Anambra Warriors are banking on their home advantage as both sides have recorded wins in front of their respective home fans.
At the Agege Stadium Lagos, MFM FC are hosts of Wikki Tourists. The Lagos side are second in the NPFL log on 46 points five behind league leaders, Plateau United.
Fourth placed Akwa United return to NPFL action on today hoping to banish the embarrassing 4-0 defeat away to Plateau United last weekend as they host Gombe United at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo.
The Promise Keepers have suffered only two defeats in their last 11 domestic matches. A win for United in Uyo could see them move to second on the standings, depending on the other results elsewhere.
In Maiduguri, El Kanemi Warriors are looking to complete a “double” over Abia Warriors in the NPFL this season after they beat the Abdullahi Biffo’s men 1-0 in February. Both teams are struggling at the moment. While El Kanemi Warriors are comfortable playing at home, they have managed two wins in their last five games just as Abia Warriors who have the same form guide.
In other fixtures for the matchday-29 clash, Shooting Stars will be eager to consolidate on their remarkable draw away at Rangers International when they host Katsina United, while ABS and Rivers United FC gom head-to-head in one of the crucial relegation battles.
Both sides are in in desperate need of points, given their precarious positions on the log. Rivers United FC are in 14th position – one point ahead of ABS, in 17th position, going into today’s matchday-29 matches.
A defeat for either side will drag the Saraki boys into the relegation fight. The reverse fixture ended 2-0 in favour of Rivers United four months ago.
Kano Pillars will aim for their 12thbwin of the campaign when they host Enugu Rangers International in Kano.
Relegation strugglers, Remo Stars face an uphill task against Lobi Stars in Markurdi, while Sunshine Stars playing in Sagamu, will be confident of another big win taking on Nasarawa United FC.
