By Johnny Edward:
Nigerian right-back Akeem Latifu, who was a free agent, has joined reigning Hungarian champions Budapest Honved on a one-year deal, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The financial details of the deal were however not disclosed according to a statement on the club’s official website.
Latifu arrival at the club is expected to shore up the void left by the club’s first choice at right-back, fellow Nigerian Ikenne King who suffered a nasty injury in Budapest Honved’s 2-0 win over Haladas a fortnight ago.
The 27-year-old Latifu who previously featured for Stromsgodset, Aalesunds FK and IL Hödd in Norway before starring for Alanyaspor in Turkey took to his Instagram page to express his delight at the move.
“Prayer changes everything. Happy to have signed for the reigning champion of Hungarian league, Budapest Honved FC. Looking forward,” the former Nigeria U-20 defender wrote beneath a picture of his unveiling on Wednesday.
Last season, Budapest Honved ended a 24-year wait to win the Hungarian first division NB1 title, defeating Videoton 1-0.
