Moses Shines, Batshuayi On Fire As Chelsea Hammer Iwobi’s Arsenal

By James Agberebi:

Chelsea avenged their FA Cup loss to Arsenal last season with a dominant 3-0 win in a pre-season friendly game at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing, China on Saturday.

Super Eagles duo, Alex Iwobi and Victor Moses, were on from the start for Arsenal and Chelsea respectively, while Nigerian-born England U-20 World Cup winner, Fikayo Tomori, was brought on for the Blues in the second half.

A brace from Michy Batshuayi and a goal from Willian sealed the win for the Premier League champions.

Chelsea edged the early part of the game following a lovely pass from Cesc Fabregas to the bright Victor Moses whose strike was saved by David Ospina.

A few minutes later, a mistake from Ainsley Maitland-Niles was almost punished by Willian but the Brazilian forward effort went inches off target.

Chelsea continued to dominate the game and went close again, this time through Michy Batshuayi but his left-foot shot was easily claimed by Ospina.

In the 29th minute Chelsea were forced into an early change as Pedro Rodriguez was forced off and replaced by youngster Jeremie Boga after he collided with Ospina.

Arsenal had Ospina to thank as the Colombian made two quick saves to deny Willian and Moses to keep the game goalless.

Chelsea’s dominance eventually yielded a goal but Batshuayi’s effort was flagged for offside.

Willian finally put Chelsea 1-0 in the 41st minute after cutting inside and curling his effort which came off the post before ending inside the back of the net.

In the 42nd minute, Batshuayi made it 2-0 after sending a curling finish into the corner off a fine assist from N’Golo Kante.

In added time, Aaron Ramsey had Arsenal’s first real chance but was denied by Thibaut Courtois.

At the start of the second half, Arsenal made six changes with Francis Coquelin, Laurent Koscielny, Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck, Mohamed Elneny and Sead Kolasinac replacing Granit Xhaka, Per Mertesacker, Alexandre Lacazette, Iwobi, Nacho Monreal and Maitland-Niles respectively.

Despite Arsenal’s six changes, it was Chelsea who got on the score sheet four minutes into the second half, as Batshuayi grabbed his second goal to make it 3-0 after smashing a stunning strike into the top left corner from 20 yards.

Arsenal were close to reducing the scoreline through Coquelin from Giroud’s free-kick rebound but his effort went narrowly wide.

Substitute Tomori almost got on the score sheet after being fed by Fabregas but his shot was well saved by Ospina.

Both teams will meet again in the FA Community Shield on August 6th at Wembley.
