Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that left back, Aleksandar Kolarov, is set to leave the club and join AS Roma ahead of next season.
Guardiola revealed the piece of information after his team suffered a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United in the International Champions Cup in the early hours of Friday.
The former Lazio man who Guardiola sometimes deployed in the centre-back position last season has won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups since his arrival in England.
“Kolarov is one step from going to Roma,” Guardiola is quoted as saying by Daily Mail.
“I don’t like to work with people who doesn’t want to stay,” the City boss says after seeing his side lose 2-0 to Manchester United in the International Champions Cup.
“Kola helped me a lot last season in terms of many, many things, but he has a big chance to come back to Rome where he was before.
“He spoke to me, with the club but especially to me, and said he would like to leave and I don’t like to live still with players that don’t want to stay.
“That’s what it is the best option for everybody, especially for him.
“I wish him all the best because he is a really nice guy. We had an excellent relationship with him, I was very pleased to train him and I wish him and his family the best.”
City released full backs Bacary Sagna, Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy at the end of last season but are expected to conclude deals for Ream Madrid’s Danilo and AS Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy.
