Iwobi Eager To Enjoy Better Season, Relishes Royal Treatment As Nigeria Player

Arsenal and Nigeria star, Alex Iwobi, hopes the 2017/2018 season will be the best of his career so far at his club, Arsenal, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Iwobi played 26 Premier League matches and scored three league goals in 1,462 minutes last season, but the player who is also adept at playing at both the wings and central midfield spoke to the Daily Mail about his expectations for next season.

“I have a point to prove. I didn’t play as much as I’d like to last year. I want to start the season with a bang,” Iwobi told the Daily Mail.

“I’ve been doing a bit of running and ballwork to prepare.

“I need to be a bit more hungry this year, add more goals and assists.

“At the start of last season I played a lot. I want to do that all year. Consistency is the key with me.”

Iwobi assisted new signing Alexandre Lacazette to score in his debut game in the team’s 2-0 win over Sydney FC on Thursday.

“He (Lacazette) hugged me after and said thank you.

“It was nice to help him get off the mark for Arsenal. I wouldn’t say I did it all for him. He did well.

Iwobi also spoke on Friday on his decision to represent Nigeria and not England despite representing the Three Lions at youth levels.

“Originally, I’m from Nigeria. I always felt comfortable there. It was a hard decision because I’d played for England, but I felt more at home there and I’m treated like a king.

“As I was about to play my first match (for Nigeria) Roy Hodgson was in contact with Arsenal saying we’d like him to get involved with the Under 21s but my mind was made up.”
