Chelsea boss Antonio Conte says his players are eager to start playing in the UEFA Champions League after missing out last season.
Following a very poor campaign in the 2015/2016 Premier League season which saw Chelsea finish 10th, the Blues under Conte will make a return to Europe’s elite competition after claiming the league title last season.
“There is plenty of enthusiasm in the squad to play in the Champions League and in four competitions next season,” Conte said in Monday’s press conference ahead of Chelsea’s International Champions Cup clash against Bayern Munich in Singapore on Tuesday.
Conte said he expects the same level of support from the Singapore fans just like what they experienced from the Chinese fans during his side’s 3-0 win against Arsenal in Beijing on Saturday.
“To play a game like tomorrow’s is very good and I hope to see the same passion from the fans as I saw in Beijing.”
Conte went on to give the latest on Pedro Rodriguez who was subbed off against Arsenal after coliding with David Ospina.
“Pedro’s injury was more serious than I thought, he has multiple fractures but with a mask he should train in 10 days,” he explained.
And on Chelsea’s chance of retaining the league title and new signing Alvaro Morata featuring against Bayern Munich, the former Juventus manager said: “The only way I know to repeat last season’s success is to work hard.
“The plan is to give Alvaro Morata some action in tomorrow’s game, although not from the start.”
