Former head coach of the Super Eagles Christian Chukwu is confident that current Eagles boss Gernot Rohr will lead the national team to glory, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Rohr debunked recent media reports that he was considering resigning as coach of the Nigerian national team as the countdown to his team’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against African champions, Cameroon, continues.
“Two good heads are better than one. I didn’t even believe this talk of the Nigeria Football Federation meddling into the team selection. I don’t think that is the case between both parties,” Chukwu, who won the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations as captain of the Green Eagles and then coached the team to third place at the 2004 AFCON, told Completesportsnigria.com on Wednesday.
“Rohr has done quite well so far and has only lost one match, against South Africa in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, so he needs our support. I believe he can achieve some great results at major tournaments with the national team. The football federation were supportive when I was coach of the team too.
“I feel it will not be nice to insinuate that the Technical Committee of the NFF are interfering with his team selections and henceforth want to vet his list of invited players for matches.
“The NFF only advise him you know, some players may want to hide their inujuries and all those kind of things so the NFF can give him the information that he needs to be successful. Its not interference.”
