Former Nigeria international Daniel Amokachi hopes the amount of signings done by Everton this summer would see them qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League, while admitting that he would love a return to the club in some capacity.
Everton have been very active in the current transfer window, signing Wayne Rooney from Manchester United, Jordan Pickford from Sunderland, Sandro Rammirez from Malaga and Davy Klaassen from Ajax.
The Merseyside club also bought Nigerian young forward Henry Onyekuru and loaned him to Anderlecht.
Amokachi who played for Everton for two seasons (1994 to 1996) and won the 1995 FA Cup with them, stated that the quality signings made by the Toffees should secure them a European ticket.
“Ronald Koeman has come in and the chairman is spending a lot of money to bring in quality players,” former Nigeria star and coach Amokachi told Sky Sports.
“Hopefully we can get into Europe and into the Champions League.”
Amokachi expressed delight meeting up with Everton fans at the 2017 Star Sixes held in London while stating he would love to return and take up a role in th e club.
“It is always good to come back home,” Amokachi said.
“There are a lot of Everton fans who have been in touch on Twitter and they were there at the hotel too. It was good to see them. It was a lot of fun.
“The big man is still there (Duncan Ferguson) and it’s good to see him on the bench and making an impact with the young players.
“I definitely would like to come back too. It is all about timing. When the opportunity comes then why not? Life is a beautiful thing.”
On his new role as techinical director at Finnish second division club JS Hercules, Amokachi said: “Things are good in Finland. I have taken over the technical director role and left my coaching position there. Of course, it is semi-professional level so you just have to manage them and get the best out of them. But I am really enjoying it. The new role also helps me to be flexible and come over here too.”
