AKWA IBOM GOVT TO PRESENT SUPPLEMENTARY BUDGET

In order to continue executing programmes and policies for the development of the state, the Akwa Ibom State Government has concluded plans to present a supplementary budget to the House of Assembly.

This was the outcome of the enlarged State Executive Council meeting held this Tuesday in the Executive Council Chambers in Government House, Uyo.

The Commissioner for Finance, Mr Linus Nkan, while fielding questions from Government House Press Corps, said the Government took this decision basically to take care of certain areas of economic developments that were not captured in the initial 2017 state appropriation law.

“Certain assumptions during the preparation of the budget were not taken into considerations and realization, there was need for us to be able to make certain provisions to be augmented in the 2017 budget to enable the Governor to continue to execute his programmes and services to the people of the state.” Linus Nkan added.

Also explaining further the State Commissioner for Housing and Special Duties, Mr Akan Okon said, there were some projections that were made in the last budget based on certain indices, but with the current recession still persisting, such indices are not obtainable.

“Therefore there was need for Government to meet and do a supplementary budget that will ensure that those projects that the Government proposed to do during the financial year are carried out for the benefit of Akwa Ibom people and that was the reason why we met today to look at the possibility of having a supplementary budget that will assist the Government in the execution of this project,” Akan Okon added.
