“UYO PEOPLE ARE NOT TROUBLEMAKERS” – HON MONDAY EYO

Amidst the controversy trailing the reconstitution of the Akwa Ibom Ministry of Transport and Petroleum Resources Compliance and Monitoring Unit, the member representing Uyo State Constituency at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon Monday Eyo has faulted spate of media reports that the Constituency has been sidelined in the scheme of things at the State Ministry of Transport and Petroleum Resources.

In a chat with Ibom Reporters on Monday, the Legislator explained that the Ministry has given priority to indigenes of the area with the appointment of Mr Maurice Edet and Mr Imo Udo as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Compliance and Monitoring Unit. He also hinted that Uyo Local Government Area has four other indigent natives as members in the 12-man Monitoring Unit.

“I’m advising the people of Uyo to embrace peace. The Honourable Commissioner is a grassroot politician. Those who have grievances should channel same to me instead of causing chaos. Uyo people are not troublemakers”, the former Uyo Local Govt. Vice Chairman added.

On the purported shutdown of the Ministry’s Office Annex, hitherto AKTC Terminal along Ikot Ekpene Road with injunction last week Friday by the host community demanding for financial compensation from the Government for establishing the office in their community without due consultation, the Assemblyman said the community had disassociated itself from the evil action. He maintained that Uyo people are peaceful and attributed the action to mischief makers who are out to frustrate the efforts of government in developing the state.

On the petitions received by the House of Assembly against the Ministry, he averred: “It is the duty of the House of Assembly Committee to investigate petitions against any Ministry, Agency or Parastatal of government. Petitions don’t mean you’re guilty, we have to do our job. That’s why we are called the Peoples Assembly. I believe the reforms by the Honourable Commissioner is in the interest of Akwa Ibom people”.

Speaking further, Hon Eyo applauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for appointing Hon Orman Esin as Commissioner for Transport and Petroleum Resources and maintained that Mr Esin is a man with the capacity and pedigree to turn things around as seen in the gigantic reforms initiated by him in the transport sector in the state.
