Following the much outcry by the people of Ikot Ikere,Ebereotu and Ikot Udo Ekop as a result of the total collapse of the only bridge linking the three villages, and the destruction of their only source of water,the member representing Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly,Rt.Hon.(Elder) Aniekan Uko this morning stormed the area to ascertain the claim and to equally assure the residents of the area that the Udom led government will give a listening hear to the situation.
Making entry to Ikot Udo Ekop where the chiefs of the three villages converge to take the member on sight seeing,the member was cheered by his numerous supporters who heralded his coming with enthusiasm.
Speaking at the inspection,the erudite lawmaker said he was moved by the predicament the people were facing,hence the visit.
“My Chiefs,elders and the good people this three villages,I decided to come today personally to confirm this predicament that you are passing through.
A lawmaker is suppose to connect the people and government.That is very true.It is on this basis that as your representative,I cannot close my eyes and see your sufferings.
It is my responsibility to draw government attention to this environmental mishap so that your once precious life can be redeemed again” he assured.
The Ibesikpo Asutan, spokesman assured the residents of the area that he will bring the motion up in the floor of the AKHA where the government will further it with intervention.
“Governor Udom Emmanuel is a listening governor and am sure that once this situation is brought before his notice,he will do something positive about it”he maintained.
Present at the inspection were the village heads of Ikot Ikere Chief Nsidibe Etuk,that of Ebereotu Chief Felix Asuquo Ekpo and that of Ikot Udo Ekop Chief Sunday Dan Etokakapan,the youths and the elated women.
Responding the chiefs described the coming of the lawmaker as a rescue mission, maintaining that their lives have been negatively affected by the bridge collapse which have thwarted their economic activities as well as loss of means of good water.
Still speaking on behalf of the chiefs,Obong Nsidibe Etuk said the whole problem started when the drainage of Goodluck Jonathan Boulevard was emptied to their steam being their only source of water after which several attempts to arrest the situation met with brick walls.
“Our economic life has been jeopardized,our children lacks road to access schools.Recently,one of the pupil in our primary school fell into the stream which only God”s mercy brought him back to life.It is as bad as that please help us”they pleaded.
While being optimistic of the lawmaker’s resolve to take their plight to the appropriate quarters,the royal fathers expressed satisfaction with the representation of Elder Aniekan Uko so far in the hallow Chamber describing it as the best since the inception of the State Constituency.
Speaking on behalf of the youths,Comrade Ndifreke Etim Uyo(a.k.a)Taliban thanked the member for the gesture saying it was sign of an answered prayer as the youths kept chanting” Iboroakam osuk Ofon ono fi ke Nsit nsi”meaning”Iboroakam may it be well with you forever”
The youths and school children carried various inscription drumming support to the seasoned lawmaker describing him as the needed Messiah for Ibesikpo Asutan.
Elder Aniekan Uko was taken round the collapsed bridge by the chiefs and youths who poured encomiums to crescendo to the man they described as their proud voice in the 6th assembly.
In a post media interaction with the pupils,Master Iniobong Effiong Eyo from Ebereotu who spoke on their behalf said they have really suffered as gong to school is a problem since they are afraid of falling into the river.
