EXXONMOBIL is an oil producing company with its operational base in the southern part of Akwa Ibom State and its headquarters station in Lagos (South Western Nigeria).
ExxonMobil has production capacity records of over (70%) of oil produced in Nigeria.
Pragmatically, the vicinity in which ExxonMobil is operating from have suffered from numerous environmental hazards/degradation cutting across farm lands, humans, housing etc. Nevertheless, the oil giant sees no reason of relocating their headquarters to Akwa Ibom State where it’s core exploration takes place as it is enshrined in the local content policy.
As the treasure basket of the State/Nation the core community leaders made up of (Ibeno,Esit Eket, Eket & Onna) approached ExxonMobil to consider the fixing of the then deplorable road to enable comfortable motor-able access so as to avert incessant accidents and ensuring personnel safety.
As part of safety/environmental support base on insurance policies and memorandum regarding means and ways of reducing health risks and hazards rooted in the entirety of (Ibeno,Esit Eket, Eket & Onna) due to gas flaring and oil spillages.
A certain amount (36 Billion Naira) palliative funds was made available for core catchment communities.
The community leaders unanimously arose and chatted out course on what project should be initiated and proposed for the general interest and economic purposes.
The Eket /Ibeno road was chosen and proposed to the government of Akwa Ibom State and the proposed project after a thorough professional analysis by team of experts sailed through the whole processes and was accepted while Deacon Udom Emmanuel was then the SSG under Sen. Akpabio as governor.
As at this time, Dr. Ibe Kachukwu; present minister for State (Petroluem) was then Vice President of ExxonMobil.
As a man who was always moved by “positive anger” a technical committee was immediately set up by the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, distinguished Sen. Obot Akpabio CON; after a thorough analysis on the economic, political and social importance of such project when commissioned.
The technical committee had well breed team of men of impeccable characters comprising of (two persons) each from the core LGA with Hon. Chief Nduese Essien; as head of that committee, distinguished Sen. Akpabio; was the chairman, High Chief Mkpa (Transition chairman Ibeno)served as member and many other industrious sons.
(8 Billion) was agreed by the technical committee for the funding of Eket/Ibeno project. Other projects which was captured in the (36 billion Naira) palliatives includes
(The construction of Uniuyo Engineering Faculty, An ultra modern structure at Teaching Hospital Uyo, AKwa Ibom State University and Ibeno beach which got about
(1 billion) Naira.)
Truth be told, the Eket/Ibeno road is never ExxonMobil volitional or self sponsored project as rumoured by some sponsored APC’s imbecilic parrots whose times and moments of recognition has been murdered by their ill acts.
The Eket / Ibeno Dualise express way is one among those numerous projects funded through community developmental funds (palliatives) from ExxonMobil meant for developing core community with an extra funding/support from the government.
The leaders of core communities are of the notion that, if truly ExxonMobil have such a heart of benevolence and community concerns of funding the Eket/Ibeno dualise road from their account if not from the community palliatives; an immediate demand for a refund of their (8billion) palliatives from ExxonMobil should not be delayed from this time forth.
ExxonMobil should tender an unreserved apology to the community leaders and the governor of Akwa Ibom State for sending signal of hatred and mischief against the people and the government within the next (24 hours.)
The leaders of the community are also challenging Mobil to show facts and detail how they funded the project with (8 billion) Naira. Total cost of the project is never
(8 Billion) Naira.
The project initially was designed for a single lane road, but, His Excellency governor Udom Emmanuel ensured the redesigning of the expressway to include over (4bridges, street lightings, pedestrian etc).
we can now boast of a dualise expressway in our locality even when APC had failed woefully.
It is obvious that the Public Affairs of ExxonMobil have resorted to fraternise with the All Progressive Congress APC to blackmail and flagrantly vomit lies unnecessarily to discredit the hard earn personality of Akwa Ibom People.
Howbeit, the spirit of giving a new phase to the archaic nature of Eket / Ibeno road by His Excellency the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Emmanuel remain avowed commitment among projects to be completed and commissioned come 29th May,2017.
#NB:
Is Mobil operating in accordance with signed MOU?
