Akwa Ibom women have been encouraged to take active participation in the ongoing agricultural revolution in the state by engaging in mechanized farming in order to boost food sufficiency.
Akwa Ibom State Governor’s wife Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel gave the charge today, while speaking at the Monthly Women Prayer Meeting held at the Banquet Hall, government House, Uyo.
She said her pet project FEYReP decided to compliment the state government’s drive towards food sufficiency by acquiring large hectares of land in Okobo LGA for cassava plantation, adding that it will boost garri production in the state.
Mrs. Emmanuel who decried the high prices of food stuffs especially garri, wondered why the state could not produce garri for its consumption, charging the women to key into the agricultural renaissance and farm for the benefit of all.
While also reflecting on the theme of the meeting “ Paid in Full”, the governor’s wife advised the women to take advantage of what Jesus Christ did for mankind over two thousand years ago , saying He died so that man can have life in abundance.
The First Lady also called for a moral rebirth among women in the state, admonishing them to love God, love their neighbours and strive to give a helping hand to the needy in the society.
In a brief but impactful exhortation, Pastor (Mrs.) Utibe-eno John Udoh drawing her text from the book of Romans 8: 11, expounded on the need for women to transcend from the level of being mere church goers to being committed and vibrant ambassadors of Christ.
She stated that Jesus Christ brought reconciliation to mankind with God, adding that God wants his children to work in the ressurection knowledge of His word. She also admonished the women to be obedient to God’s word as this will cause God to smile upon them and the state at large.
The prayer meeting which was characterize with songs of worship, praise and thanksgiving to God almighty for his continuous faithfulness upon the state, had in attendance wife of the erstwhile governor of Cross River State, Mrs. Nne Isong, wife of the former deputy governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mrs. Atim Okpoyo, and the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Glory Edet. Others were wife of the Secretary to the State Government and Solicitor General, Barr. (Mrs.) Gloria Umoren, and the PDP Woman leader,Mrs. Mmeme Akpabio.
Also present were wives of Legislators (LEWA), wives of Commissioners and Special Advisers (COSAWA), Female Transition Chairmen, wives of Transition Chairmen, Mbong Iban, Female Permanent Secretaries, wives of Permanent secretaries and other dignitaries.
