As democracy day in Nigeria and the second anniversary of Governor Udom Emmanuel in office approaches, no fewer than 11 road projects will be inaugurated across the state.
Commissioner for works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyangeyen gave the hint while answering questions on a live interview programme on AKBC radio in Uyo on friday.
Inyangeyen noted that Governor Emmanuel has been committed to ending the cycle of heavy flooding in Uyo. He said the Governor’s major take off point in channeling flood water is the Edet Akpan, Nsikak Eduok, Itiam, Afaha Etok communities down to Ibesikpo.
“I sympathize with Keke riders because the famous spot they use to wash their tricycles from flood water on Nsikak Eduok by Edet Akpan Avenue is gone. We are glad to discontinue their business there. Government is happy to take away the flood water completely from that region down to Tropicana to Obot Idim” he added.
The works commissioner advised public servants to approach governance with sincerity and imbibe the examples of Governor Udom Emmanuel who does not play politics with projects.
“What drives this government is passion and sincerity. When you are given an assignment, it is the sincerity of purpose that matters. It does not matter if you are a professional in the field. God has been marvelous, the many things we do came to us by inspiration, because God knows our attitude is right. Today I can sit with professional engineers and discuss…”Inyangeyen enthused.
He welcomed the idea that Federal agencies like the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs were increasingly interested in doing road projects in the state.
He appreciated the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Osani Osani who visited the state on Friday and saw some of the projects poorly delivered and abandoned by the NDDC.
Inyangeyen said Akwa Ibom people were mindful of the quality of roads done by federal agencies in the state and specifically frowned at the shoddy job currently done by the NDDC in Ewet Housing Estate in Uyo.
“I want to appeal to NDDC to direct their contractors working on Ewet Housing Estate roads to do a good job. They are currently putting red earth on unsuitable materials. That is below sub standard. That road will collapse in the next 3 months. We want roads in Akwa Ibom State but we want good quality roads that will last”.
The Commissioner reassured the people of the state that Governor Emmanuel was committed to delivering excellent road projects, accompanied with full drainage facilities in the state.
He appreciated the people for the massive support the Governor enjoys from all sectors in the state, unprecedented since state creation.
