#AmazingAkwaIbom: The State is fast on the way to becoming a preferred brand- @HonVictorAntai

WELCOME ADDRESS PRESENTED BY THE HON. COMMISSIONER, MINISTRY OF CULTURE AND TOURISM, RT. HON. VICTOR ANTAI ON THE OCCASION OF THE UNVEILING OF THE TOURISM BRAND IDENTITY LOGO FOR AKWA IBOM STATE/PRESENTATION OF PRIZES TO WINNERS HELD ON SATURDAY, APRIL 15, 2017 AT COUNCIL FOR ARTS AND CULTURE AMPHI- THEATRE, UYO   

 

PROTOCOL

It is with immense gratitude and a high sense of responsibility that I welcome you to this occasion of the unveiling of the winning logo in the Akwa Ibom State Tourism Brand Identity Logo Competition with the theme, “Amazing Akwa Ibom…the preferred destination”. Prizes will also be given to the winners in this event.

 

However, this event was initially slated for 7th April, 2017 which was marked as the World Health Day and we considered it inappropriate to launch a great work of arts on World Health Day when World Creativity and Innovation Day, which is today was barely a week away. Hence, we are gathered here today to celebrate creativity and innovation.

 

You will recall that on Monday, 20th March this year, we had the privilege of briefing the Press on the decision of the State Government through our Ministry to invent a Tourism Brand Identity Logo for the State.

This is in line with the efforts of the State Government in undertaking several culture and tourism destination projects aimed at redirecting tourist traffic to the State to boost the State Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), as an alternative to oil.

 

I am aware that following the opening of entries for the competition, the response was overwhelming as a lot of entries within and outside the country were received by the Selection Committee. In fact, at the last count, over six hundred entries were received.

 

I am also aware that the jury, made up of men of tested character and professional acumen has been diligent in assessing the entries. It is as a result of the conclusion of the assessment process that we are gathered here today to unveil the Identity Logo and present prizes to deserving winners.

 

For avoidance of the doubt, let me reiterate that the star prize winner will smile home with N250,000.00 while the first and second runners up will get the sum of N150,000.00 and N100,000.00 respectively.

Very distinguished ladies and gentlemen, permit me to take this opportunity to commend our dear Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for his unwavering interest in the development of the tourism sector of our State economy. We owe our deepest gratitude to His Excellency for his unrelenting support and commitment to the repositioning of our Ministry and the tourism sector of the State.

 

We, equally thank the Press community in the State and online bloggers for effectively disseminating information about the exercise which translated into the quantum of entries we received. It is on record that within two hours of the online launch of the entry, we had more than forty million impressions.

 

It is my fervent belief that with the launching of Identity Logo for the State in the tourism industry, the State is fast on the way to becoming a preferred brand.

 

I heartily congratulate the winners of the keenly contested competition on their feat and thank everyone who entered for the competition. I urge all our people to keep faith with the State administration in the move towards a better Akwa Ibom State.
