…As Ikono People Declare Support for Gov Emmanuel

It was all smiles recently in Ikono Local government area when the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr Glory Emmanuel Edet as well as the Chairman of Ikono Local Government Council and his wife, Mr/Mrs Itoro Columba played host to a cross-section of women, widows, orphans and other less privileged natives of the area at the local Government Council hall, Ibiaku Ntok Okpo.
Speaking at the event, the gold hearten Women Affairs Commissioner expressed her deep appreciation to the State Governor, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and his wife, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel for not only recording multiple achievements in their eighteen month reign but for instilling in their subordinates the passion to give to others. She said, “The Governor and his wife have shown the way for all Exco members and the entire PDP family in the state to follow. For you to work with the Governor, you must be a giver”. She applauded the numerous strides of the present administration in Ntippe Ibibio and threw her weight behind their clamour for the Governor to succeed himself in May 29, 2019. “Heaven has already sealed an eight-year tenure for Gov. Udom Emmanuel and with your loyalty and support, it shall surely came to pass”, the Dean, College of State Executive Council members told the teeming crowd of Ntippe Ibibio natives.
On her decision to empower the women, widows, orphans and other less privileged natives of the area, the multiple-term Women Affairs Commissioner said she was merely following the footsteps of her principal, the State Governor as well as coming to terms with the Holy Bible which admonishes Christians to share the little in their possession with others, especially the down trodden who will not be able to return the favour. She said, “When I came to inaugurate a brand new abattoir constructed by your workaholic council boss, I pledged to come back and empower the vulnerable natives of the area. Today, I have come to honour my pledge.” The gold hearten Commissioner then went on to empower three widows, three less privileged people and two orphans in each of the eleven political wards in Ikono Local Government area with a quarter bag of rice, various shades of wrapper materials and an upkeep allowance. The leadership and membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the area were not left out as the Commissioner also rained them with mouth watering gifts and cash.
Speaking earlier, the super performing Ikono local Government Caretaker Chairman, Mr Itoro Columba thanked the Women Affairs Commissioner for electing to come to Ntippe Ibibio to empower the less privileged even without their prompting. He expressed his delight at the fact that his robust relationship with the Hon. Commissioner was rubbing off positively on the vulnerable lot in Ntippe Ibibio as no less than 88 people cutting across the widows, less privileged and orphans in the area were set to smile home with their empowerment packages, courtesy Dr. Glory Edet. “During the inauguration of the abattoir we built at Obo market, the Hon. Commissioner intimated me that she would come back to empower Ikono natives hence my decision to partner her in this wise. This is the result of my cordial relationship with her”, the council boss informed the teeming crowd of beneficiaries.
The council chairman further commended the Hon. Commissioner for working assiduously to bring about peace and cordiality in Ini local Government area which was once regarded as the political hotbed of the state and prayed the Almighty to reward her benevolence. “Giving is not a function of a large pocket, it is a function of a large heart. The Hon. Commissioner has demonstrated that she has a large heart Today, the entire Ini Local Government area is PDP because of her strides”, the chairman concluded.
The Ikono Council boss and wife also extended empowerment packages for a total of 33 less-privileged drawn from the eleven wards of the area. Items presented included high quality wrapper materials, money and bags of rice.
As is customary to political events held in Ikono local Government area, the smooth talking journalist turned politician used the moment to move an overwhelmingly supported motion which was seconded by the Ikono PDP chapter chairman that the State Governor should remain in office beyond 2019. He also used the event to reel out the truckload of democratic deliverables his seven month reign atop the local Council had brought to Ntippe Ibibio and called on them to always pray for their leaders most especially the gold hearten Hon. Commissioner.
Setting the tone for the event, the wife of the Ikono Council chairman, Mrs Ekaette Itoro Columba had extolled the immense virtues of the Women Affairs Commissioner, saying her unique attributes were rare and uncommon. She thanked her for coming to the aid of the less privileged in the local Government and expressed her delight at partnering her to make the vulnerable lot in the area smile home with pride. The first lady further advised those not captured in the day’s empowerment exercise to rejoice with others as their day would soon come because Dr. Glory Edet’s magnanimity is in-exhaustible.
Others who spoke at the empowerment exercise were the PDP chapter chairman of the area, Chief (Barr) Moses Akpan, a former two time council chairman in the area, Obongawan Lovina Umoeffah, the Supervisor for Works in the area, Hon Itoro Etukudoh, a former PDP Women leader in the area, Obongawan Glory James, among others. They described the Hon. Commissioner as a woman with the milk of human kindness flowing through her veins and prayed the good Lord to reward her charitable spirit. They further eulogized her as a brand product of the PDP and challenged other political office holders in other political parties to embark upon such a massive empowerment programme as carried out by the Ini Local Government area born amazon.
