UYO CLUB 1935 INDUCTS GOV. EMMANUEL AS GRAND PATRON

The infrastructural consolidation and expansion agenda of Akwa Ibom State Government has received a boast as the state government has made known his intention to partner with Uyo Club 1935 in the construction of a befitting structure to accommodate the Club and allow for effective execution of it programmes.

The state Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel announced this when members of Uyo Club 1935 called on him at Government House, Uyo.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Emmanuel expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Club for sustaining the legacy as the foremost recreational centre having been in existence long before the creation of the state.

He lauded the vision of the Executive members of the Club for sustaining the goals of it founding fathers and congratulated the President of the Club Barrister Uwem Ekanem, for his pragmatic leadership strides which he said enabled his re-election as President of the prestigious Club.

The Governor announced plans to put in place a befitting edifice as the Club House at a convenient location to serve the recreational needs of the members noting that most serious businesses are concluded in reputable Club Houses, recreational parks and big Hotels .

Mr Emmanuel pointed out that Uyo Club 1935 is an agglomeration of people of great minds fettered by the desire to recreate and deliberate on topical issues, build business partnerships as well as political relationships.

He attributed relative peace experienced in the state to the cooperation of all and sundry with the security operative urging the people to always oblige useful information that would facilitate crime detection by law enhancement agents and announced plans to introduce special Telecommunication Device with codes to enable people give out useful information on crime situation.within the state.

Mr Emmanuel pledged to donate a Bus to the Club to ease their transportation challenges and thanked them for the kind words acknowledging the development strides of the administration particularly in the area of industralisation, agricultural development, massive road construction, economic and political including, peace and security in the state.

Earlier, the President Uyo Club 1935 Barrister Uwem Ekanem, stated that the Club founded eighty two years ago is the foremost recreational and sports - based Club in the state and listed the Club's objective to include promoting of Sports, Social interactions and collaboration with other Clubs with similar objectives for peaceful cohesion in the society.

Barrister Ekanem commended the State government initiative in establishing Sports Academy in the ten Federal Constituencies of the state saying the Club has over the years partner with the State Government in sports development by giving out it facilities and premises for talent development and conduct of sports fiesta.

The Uyo Club 1935 President however regretted lack of finance which he said has militated against the Club's acquisition of equipment for enhancement of the Club's objectives and requested for a new Bus for the Club.

Highpoint of the visit was investiture of Governor Udom Emmanuel as a Grand Patron of the Club by the President Barrister Uwem Ekanem who, on behalf of the Club members, pledged to submit to Governor Emmanuel's mentorship, sponsorship and all time protection thanking him for his acceptance.

In the entourage of the Uyo Club 1935 President were Obong Emmanuel Titus Vice President , Mr Macauley Udom Secretary General, Hon. Usenobong Akpabio Former President, Mr Richard Udom Assistant Secretary, Obong John Ekpo Treasurer, Professor Trenchard Ibia Member Board of Trustee and other Executive members of the Club while the Deputy Governor Mr Moses Ekpo, Secretary to the State Government Sir Etekamba Umoren, Head of Civil Service Mrs Ekereobong Akpan, Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries witnssed the courtesy visit.
