Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, has concluded arrangement for the establishment of a modular petroleum refinery and a depot in Ikot Abasi.
Making the disclosure last week during a courtesy visit on the Speaker of Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, the State Chairman of IPMAN, Pastor Ubong Isong, informed that Governor Udom Emmanuel has provided a land in Ikot Abasi for the siting of a Petroleum depot and a modular refinery that would be financed by the independent petroleum marketers in the state. He said IPMAN decided to embark on the project in order to ensure availability of petroleum products in the state.
The IPMAN Chairman announced that construction work at the site will soon take off, but pleaded the state government to provide some the access road to the provide some social amenities in the area, including access road, and other necessary facilities to enable the smooth take off of the project.
"The 5 private tank farms built in the state cannot bring enough products. Governor Udom Emmanuel has given us a land in Ikot Abasi for the sitting of a petroleum depot and modular refinery. We need the provision of social amenities as we are about starting the investment".
Responding, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke commended Governor Emmanuel for providing a land for the refinery and depot project, and described as laudable the decision by the petroleum marketers to site a refinery and a tank farm in the state.
He reiterated the preparedness of the legislature to support the government in the provision of a conducive environment for the private sector.
