Akwa United dented the pride of league leader, Plateau United in an inspiring turn around of fortunes following its 2-1 drubbing of Plateau in the match-day eight fixtures at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium , Uyo on Sunday.
New signing from Enyimba, Christian Pyagbara, set the hosts on the road for the win with his second goal of the season when he opened scoring in the 6th minute, while Alhassan Ibrahim doubled the lead in the 50th minute before Chima Ndukwe reduced the deficit on the hour mark.
The Kennedy Boboye-led side maintained top spot in the table despite the defeat with the Promise Keepers picking their second win of the campaign in the process, which eased pressure on coach Abdul Maikaba.
At the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja, a 10- man Enyimba International FC of Aba, fell 1-0 to Niger Tornadoes who extended their unbeaten streak to five games. Sadiq Suleiman netted the winner on 13 minutes after a blunder by Enyimba defenders.
El-Kanemi got the biggest win of the day, securing a comprehensive 3-0 win against Gombe United.
Goals by Bello Kofarmata and Samuel Mathias (brace) gave Ladan Bosso’s men maximum points in the contest.
In another fixture, Nasarawa United were also in fantastic form, edging out Abia Warriors 3-1 at the Lafia City Stadium.
Abdulrahman Bashir set the ball rolling with a first minute goal which lasted only two minutes before Sunday Adetunji equalised for the away side.
The Solid Miners regained the lead through Douglas Achiv in the 16th minute, while Jide Williams made the points safe by adding the third 10 minutes after the break.
In Makurdi, Lobi Stars goalkeeper John Lawrence missed a penalty as the Pride of Benue were held to a barren draw by Katsina United.
ABS FC extended their unbeaten streak against Sunshine Stars to four games, forcing the hosts to a 2-2 draw at the Akure Township Stadium.
Centre-back Ernest Governor gave ABS the lead in the 11th minute, while Ayo Saka levelled scores from the spot in the 33rd minute.
Alaba Adeniyi put Sunshine Stars ahead for the first time in the game four minutes before the break.
They were pegged back by Governor who scored his second of the game in the 54th minute.
