Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel has assured residents of Ikot Ekpene metropolis of his administration’s resolve to rid the metropolis of criminal elements that have infiltrated the area and make it a safe haven for the people to live and go about their businesses.
Governor Emmanuel gave the assurance while speaking at the funeral Service of a front line Politician and Women Mobiliser, Late Christiana Ebinda at Methodist Primary School, Utu Ikot Ekpenyong in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state.
He said " people should lend support to the security operative to enable them fish out perpetrators of criminality and being down crime in the area" and maintained that his administration is on top of the situation.
Governor Emmanuel acknowledged with pride the contributions of the matriarch to the socio-economic and political development of Ikot Ekpene by extension Akwa Ibom State and said of the deceased as a quintessential mother, epitome of peace and a unifying icon of not only the woman but the people of the state.
He observed " the state has lost a rare gem whose wise counsel was a masterpiece in the moulding of the various women associations particularly the Nka Mbong Iban which the deceased held sway as President."
Mr Emmanuel urged the bereaved family to sustain in the family legacies of truthfulness, hard work and selfless service bequeathed them by their mother pledging to support in the Church building project which the deceased championed and also announced a political appointment to the deceased son Iniobong, a graduate of Marketing, University of Calabar.
Methodist Archbishop of Ikot Ekpene Arch Diocese, Reverend Sunday Uko in his homily charged Christians to cultivate positive virtue during their lifetime saying that God created man to fulfill his divine purpose on earth and urged those who have departed to follow the path of righteousness and repent as they would be made to give account of stewardship on judgement day.
He commended the Governor's vision of industrialising the state and urged youths to reciprocate government gesture by showcasing themselves as good ambassadors of the state to enable secure employment in the industries established in the state.
A biography of the deceased indicated that Akamba Obongawan Christiana Ebinda was born on 7th April 1942 into the royal family of Late Chief Akpan Essien of Utu Ikot Ekpenyong in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area. She studied at London School of Fashion Design And Cosmotology and obtained Certificate in Catering and Hotel Management.
She had worked with the Sterling Drug International Pharmaceutical Company before joining the Nigerian Police Force and was among the first batch of Women Police Officers employed. She was an Administrative Secretary to the Inspection General of Police before retiring from the Force.
Married to Late Mr Igweng Ebinda, She is survived by four children, grand children and numerous relations to mourn her demise.
Wife of the Governor Martha, Deputy Governor Mr Moses Ekpo, Wife of Senate Minority Leader Obongawan Ekaette unoma Akpabio, top government functionaries and Political Stalwart attended the funeral.
