Akwa Ibom Ex Chairmen Woo More Support For Governor Emmanuel

The administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel has received a tremendous boost following a vote of confidence on his leadership by former elected chairmen of local governments in the state.

Coming under the aegis of Forum of Former Elected Chairmen of Local Government since 1999, the grassroot politicians led by Obong Godwin Ekpo resolved that they were satisfied with Governor Emmanuel’s drive towards industrializing and human capacity development, and have decided to support him to continue in office beyond 2019.

Similarly, an elder statesman and deputy Director General of the Divine Mandate Campaign Organisation, Elder Ben Udobia has emerged the life patron of the forum.

These were some of the resolutions taken during a courtesy call on the Political Leader of Esit Eket, Elder Udobia in Eket, to the admiration of the Akparawa Ephraim Inyang and Sir Udo Ekpenyong of the state executive council, and Mr Mfon Nkanteen the Eket senatorial Chairman of the PDP.

Speaking through their Chairman Obong Godwin Ekpo, the Forum described Elder Udobia as a strong pillar that has provided immeasurable support to the Governor before and after the elections.
Describing themselves as foundation members  of the party who can never change their loyalty, they said they came in order to partner with him for the continuous success of the PDP in the state.

Ekpo, a former chairman of Ibiono Ibom described their forum as a bastion of major stakeholders with a strong support base in their respective local government areas, maintaining that they were the first set of persons that signed communiqués and held press conferences to drum support for Governor Emmanuel, at a time some people where jumping ship on the fear that there would be a re-run.

Others who spoke included former Chairman of Itu Ededet Ekanem who said they are proud to continue supporting the governor and Eket senatorial district to complete two terms just like Uyo and Ikot Ekpene senatorial districts.

On his part the Commissioner for Local Government, Sir Udo Ekpenyong commended the chairmen, saying that they were the first set of people who have been consistent in their support to the governor.

Ekpenyong said Mr Emmanuel was noted for always rewarding hardwork and assured them that their support was well appreciated.

The commissioner for Works Mr Ephraim Inyang described the former chairmen as dependable allies in the divine mandate project, noting that they were assets that the government would always hold in high esteem.

Mr Inyang advocated a strategic session to deliberate on how others who had left the party out of grieviances could be brought back and re-integrated, assuring them that the governor was a listening governor will not forget the group.

Responding, Elder Ben Udobia thanked the past chairmen for the support to Governor Emmanuel and on his appointment as their Life patron, assuring that he shall not relent in partnering the members towards enhancing the support base of the Governor.
Over 40 former chairmen came on the visit.
