AKHA Deputy Leader Gives Scholarship to Uruan Students.

… Urges them to shun cultism and be better citizens
…. Says scholarship continues until graduation

As part of his empowerment scheme and in fulfillment of his promise to students of Uruan origin, Deputy Leader and Member representing Uruan in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Aniekan Bassey, yesterday presented tuition fees to five students.

Making the presentation in his office, the Uruan-born Lawmaker congratulated the beneficiaries for scaling through JAMB and gaining admission urging them to make their family proud and to take their studies serious.

“I am glad you passed your JAMB and also gained admission. You were more than 60 that I bought forms for. Only few of you made it. Congratulations! You are in school today for your future and that of your family. When you graduate, you will be contributing to the development of our state and country.

Do not waste this opportunity, it may not come your way again. You must shun cultism and other negative vices while in school. On my part, I promise to pay your fees until the completion of your academic programmes. I have done it before, I will not relent my effort”.

Hon. Aniekan told the beneficiaries how he too had no sponsor but had to fend for himself at a very young age. He said that all the things he went through in life has helped him to be a better person today urging the students to start now to think on how they can develop themselves.

He told them that since the burden of paying fees has been lifted off their shoulders and that of their parents, they should concentrate on their studies.

“Now the burden of fee payment is off your shoulders; concentrate on your studies. You have no reason to be a failure. I promise to always be there for you all. You must make all of us in Uruan proud. I will be checking on you to know your academic performance. Please do not disappoint me.”

He further counseled them not to depend on paid employment but think on how to create their own business and employ others. He told them not to see themselves as being too small to start up a business that he Aniekan started his won business at the age of 17.

He pleaded with the students not to be ashamed of doing anything that will generate income for them. He said, “Education is not about learning and speaking big grammar; it is about empowering your lives and contributing to a better society” .

Responding, one of the beneficiaries, Asuquo Emmanuel Okon thanked the House Member for his kind gesture and promised that they will not disappoint him nor betray the confidence he has reposed on them.
