Ekiti State government has reiterated its readiness to key into the World Bank National Urban Water Supply Reform Project Scheme aimed at ensuring availability and circulation of portable water for residents of the state.
Governor Ayodele Fayose made this known while playing host to the representatives of World Bank on Global Water Practice at the Government House in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday.
Governor Fayose who lamented different failed attempts by international water consultants concerning provision of portable water expressed optimism that the present team headed by Mr. Khairy Al-Jamal, a Senior Infrastructure Specialist and Water Engineer with the World Bank will make a difference.
Leader of the World Bank representatives, Mr. Kahiry Al-Jamal said Ekiti was part of the selected states to benefit from the water scheme with a counterpart fund of $5 million expected from the state government as its contribution. The world bank will contribute a whopping $50m to the project.
He maintained that the state support would cover rehabilitation and upgrade of Ero dam, extension of water routes to communities as well as rehabilitation of water lines and distribution system across Ekiti State.
Al-Jamal who confirmed that the water project would take up to 3 years to be completed solicited necessary supports from state government to ensure effective service delivery.
Governor Fayose while challenging the world bank team to match words with action emphasized the importance of portable water stressing that part of his administration's agenda is to ensure Ekiti people have easy access to safe, drinkable water.
