Realizing the need to work with a team of core professionals and trusted persons, Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, in his wisdom, decided to reshuffle his executive council.
The overhaul led to the yanking off and/or merging of some Ministries, Bureaus and Boards. Also, some dramatis personae had to relinquish positions. In came thorough bred Akwa Ibom sons and daughters in whom the governor is well pleased.
Coming from the highly demanding financial sector, Governor Emmanuel is well versed with the nitty-gritty of quality service delivery. He anchors his administration on the precept of competence, hard-work and unflinching dedication to duty. Little wonder, he went the whole hog to recruit persons with excellent track record, unrivalled pedigree and above all, passion for the progress of Akwa Ibom State. The governor refused to sacrifice excellence on the altar of politics.
For emphasis, yours truly is not a see-no-good critic neither am I a sycophant. I frown at the ills in our society and applaud the things which are worth applauding. As an Akwa Ibomite, my prayer is for the Udom Emmanuel administration to succeed.
Therefore, I doff my hat for the Governor for assigning Professor Eno Blankson Ikpe the responsibility of steering affairs in the Ministry of Investment, Commerce and Industries - three key sectors rolled into one ministry with the sole purpose of promoting, regulating and controlling industrial, commercial and investment activities as the pivot to socioeconomic development of Akwa Ibom State.
The ministry under her stewardship is dedicated to developing the human capacity, stimulate employment and utilise abundant raw materials for the betterment of the state.
Well, anyone who is in doubt of the Prof’s ability to function effectively will in no distant time eat his words. She came well prepared. Having received educational grooming in Nigeria and Germany, she later spent decades impacting knowledge in the nation’s ivory towers. This, in addition to her plethora of experience, honours and myriad achievements make his profile quite intimidating.
As Commissioner, she has a foolproof modus operandi which is already reaping dividends. Armed with the belief that the state can be the industrial and commercial hub of Nigeria, Prof. Ikpe is working tirelessly to make such dream become a reality.
As a hugely connected and widely travelled person, The Prof is utilizing her contacts to woo investors to the state. Presently, investors are queuing awaiting green light to commence operations hereabout.
Her Ministry’s blueprint which is in tandem with the governor’s industrialization policy portends great dividends if fully implemented.
Interestingly, the state is migrating from being a civil service state to an industrial haven. Industries like the Pencil/ Toothpick Factory in Etinan, Hatchery in Uruan, Peacock Paints in Etinan, Metering Company in Onna, amongst others are products of this administration’s commitment to making the state better.
Her performance during the defense of his Ministry’s budgetary appropriation at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly further underlines her commitment to service delivery.
Disclosing plans to revive ailing industries in the state, the commissioner hinted that her ministry exists for the betterment of the masses, that strict monitoring approach shall be adopted and quality testing facilities put in place to ensure that products churned from factories hereabout are of the highest quality.
The House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation applauded her for a job well done and promised to look into recommendations put forward.
The tasks which lies ahead are enormous but Prof. Ikpe’s disciplined and educationally sophisticated background equip her with the tools to excel.
Prof. Ikpe may not be a loud-mouthed government appointee, but her achievements in office will surely speak for her. There is no iota of doubt that the Ministry of Investment, Commerce and Industry is in safe hands. By the time she’ll clock 100 days in office, her achievements shall be so humongous.
A native of Ikot Akpanya community in Etinan Local Government Area, Professor Eno Blankson Ikpe is a popular figure in social circles especially amongst women. Her highest educational degree is a Ph.D in Modern and Contemporary Social and Economic History bagged from University of Muenster, Germany. She is happily married with four children.
Governor Udom Emmanuel, you got this one right!
