Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state and Senate Minority Leader Senator Godswill Akpabio are among top world leaders invited to attend the inauguration of Ghana’s president-elect Nana Akufo-Addo that will take place in the country’s capital Accra this Saturday.
The special invitations from the presidential inauguration committee also invites another prominent Akwa Ibom son and President of Africa Media Network, Mr Aniekan Umanah to grace the occasion billed to commence by 8:30am this Saturday.
The release reads, “On the occasion of the inauguration of the President -elect His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice Peesident Elect Alhaji Mahamudu Bahumia, the Speaker of Parliament requests the company of His Excellency, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel to a special sitting of the parliament at the independent square on Saturday 7th January, 2017 by 8:30am.”
Mr Addo of the New Patriotic Party will be sworn in as the fifth president of Ghana after defeating incumbent John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress in last year’s elections.
About 11 heads of state and government, two vice-presidents, 13 government representatives, five international representatives of multilateral organisations, and a number of ex-presidents from West Africa and other parts of the world are expected at the ceremony.
Incumbent President Mahama lost his bid for a second term by a margin of over 1.5 million votes.
Mr Addo won the seat after two unsuccessful attempts in 2008 and 2012. He won 53.8 per cent of the vote against President Mahama's 44.4 per cent.
