-As a Bill on Law School grant may be underway
The member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Otobong Ndem has urged students of Nigerian Law School to remain good ambassadors as well as strive to reach the peak of the legal profession.
The lawmaker, who gave the charge yesterday, when members of the Students Representative Council, Nigerian Law School, Abuja, paid a courtesy call on him, noted that the students are the image of the Nigerian law school and as such the public will judge the law school through their actions.
"First of all, you must remain committed to your primary aim in the law school. You must never forget the main reason why you are there because every other thing is secondary. You must ensure that you come out of the law school in flying colors. That is paramount.
"Secondly, you must always remember that you are ambassadors of the Nigerian law school and that you represent the image of the law school. As such, the general public will rate the law school through your actions. So, you be good Ambassadors."
Hon. Ndem informed his visitors that the sixth Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke has recorded resounding success in legislation, representation and oversight functions, adding that the House is committed to the development of the state.
Responding to an earlier plea by some of the students, Hon. Ndem assured that he will dialogue with relevant persons to see the possibility of sponsoring a Bill on law school grants which will enable Akwa Ibom students in the law school to get financial assistance from the state government.
"By the grace of God, the Speaker of the sixth Assembly is a seasoned lawyer and he has ensured that most of the bills passed into law so are people-oriented. Personally, I have already sponsored two Bills which are critical to the economy of the state.
"Let me also inform you that some of the Bills I am working on are education related like the Post Graduate Bill. So, I will begin to talk with the relevant people to see how we can come up with the law school grants Bill."
The lawmaker further hinted that in his personal capacity, he has given financial assistance to many law school students, adding that he intends to sustain the gesture as a show of love for the legal profession and called on the students to use every opportunity they have to promote the government of Akwa Ibom State.
Earlier in his address, the chairman of the Council, Mr. Anietie Ndem applauded the lawmaker for his effective representation which, he said, has not only contributed to the growth and development of Mkpat Enin but Akwa Ibom State at large.
He assured the lawmaker that students of the Nigerian law school have keenly followed his achievements and well pleased and appealed that the lawmaker should extend his goodwill and assistance the students in order to ensure that they succeed in the law school.
