IBOM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT: SECOND RUNWAY SET FOR COMPLETION.

The Akwa Ibom State Government has concluded plans to complete the second Runway at the Ibom International Airport, within the next six months.

The Commissioner for Housing and Special Duties in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Akan Okon,made this known when he inspected the Rapid Exit and the second Runway of the Airport,on thursday.

Speaking shortly after the inspection tour, the Commissioner  said his visit was aimed at inspecting the project site, to ascertain the level of work done. He expressed delight at the level of work done at the site.

While interacting with the site contractor, the Commissioner expressed optimism that the project would be completed within the next six months.

He maintain that part of their facility visit, was to look at the Rapid Exit and the second Runway, to ascertain the extent of work done and from what was on ground, the has been a significant level of work done.
Noting that the construction is not just like road construction, it is a specialized project, hence,he was impressed with the level of work done.

On the Power Sub-station, Mr Akan Okon, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties, Mrs Valerie Obot, said, "from our previous inspection, we found out that there were certain things that were not properly done, and the contractor was ordered to go back to site and ensure the job is done according to specification.

"As you have seen today,the contractors are already there, trying to make sure they do the work according to specifications", he added.

On his part, the project contractor, Chief Ghanem Rasbeih of Gitto Construction Company who conducted the Commissioner round the site, said they had been faced with weather challenges and needed to wait for the dry season to set in, but however said work would soon resume at the site.

The Airport inspection is coming few hours after the Commissioner visited the Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre, where he assured of the competition of ongoing projects taken over from the previous administration.

It would be recalled that, Mr Akan Okon had last year inspected major facilities at the Ibom International Airport, including the Ticketing Hall, Departure and Arrival Halls, Security Points, Announcement Room, Airlines Office, Apron Control Office, among others, and directed the immediate repairs of some non functional facilities.
