I have no plans to join APC – Ekpoattai

The member representing Eket Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Deaconess Owoidighe Ekpoattai has described as false, baseless and very funny a recent report in a local tabloid (not this paper) that she is plotting to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking with our reporter on phone, Mrs. Ekpoattai stated that she is a faithful member of the PDP and has not joined the APC as alleged in the report. She added that she has no plans whatsoever to leave the PDP for APC or any party for that matter.

She explained that as a member of the PDP, her duty is to continue to contribute her quota to the growth of the party both in the state and at the national level and Nigeria in general. Speaking further, she explained that the story was a figment of imagination of the writer, adding that at no time did she speak to the media or journalist on any issue bordering on defection or any other matter.

“At no point did I speak with any journalist on any issue regarding defection or any other thing for that matter. I don’t know where the originator of that story got his information from. But I wish to state clearly for the avoidance of doubt that I have no plans of defecting to the APC or any other party. I am a member of the Peoples Democratic Party and a very loyal one at that. I call on all well meaning members of the public to disregard the report that linked me to the APC. The story is false and lacks any grain of truth. I am a member of the PDP and I have no plans of defecting to another party,’’ she stated.

Hon. Ekpoattai therefore calls on journalists to always verify their news before going to the press; adding that reports like the one that linked her to the APC is capable of causing confusion and disaffection among the people and calling to question the integrity of the media in the state. She stated that she will continue to work for the PDP both in the state and at the federal level, while pledging her unalloyed support to Governor Udom Emmanuel, stressing that she will continue to lend ideas towards the development of the state and the current administration at all times.
