MThe new commissioner for Housing and Special Duties , Mr. Akan Okon took his turn among other worshippers to narrate how he escaped death in the ill fated Reigners Bible Church building collapse which occurred in December, 2016. The commissioner’s testimony which was emotionally laden was received rapt attention by worshippers who thronged the Mount of Deliverance mega parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Uyo, for the New Year thanksgiving service.
” As I was arriving the consecration service in the Church just opposite us, there was a protocol who was about directing me to seat in the middle area, but, I had to call my wife, so, I decided to stay outside for a few minutes to call my wife, as I called her, her line wasn’t connecting, so, I had to spend a little more time to get her on line, just three minutes into the call as I was about stepping into the building, the disaster struck, and that’s how I escaped death”, Okon, narrated, So, people of God I’m here to thank God for his mercy and blessing”.
He also narrated the ordeal he went through to get reappointed into the state executive council, saying that it took the mighty hand of God who fought his battle against some enemies who did not want him back as a commissioner.
“When the state exco was dissolved and another one to constituted, there was a battle, but, God saw me through. Some persons who were not comfortable with me because of the straight way, I was doing things in finance ministry didn’t feel comfortable, so , they fought against me ” the commissioner said, “but even when the new list was to be formed, I didn’t go to any way to seek help, as I child of God, I trusted God for everything, and even when my name was among the new list, they still fought against me returning to the finance ministry, but, they didn’t know God was going to give me a double, I now have more responsibilities than my previous position”.
Okon who preached the day’s sermon in his exhortation on the topic “Hope” , admonished Christains not to lose hope in God as he was the only one capable of doing the impossible things. He urged the Akwa Ibom people to continue having hope in the government of Udom Emmanuel and not relent in praying for the administration in its efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy.
