The commissioner for Housing and Special Duties, Mr Akan Okon, has said that the inspection visit to the Mass Housing Estate, Idu Uruan, one of the project sites of his ministry was to enable him have a proper assessment of work done in the Estate.
The commissioner inspected the boundaries of the estate to ascertain compliance to the design, compliance to fencing rules and regulation and also assessed plans for other critical infrastructure such as erosion control measures.
He was also briefed on and shown the road network design, areas designated for commercial centers, green areas and parks among others.
The commissioner said that houses located in flood prone areas as well as areas designated for water reservoirs would be demolished and their allottees re-allocated safer apartments.
He also noted that allottees who have already constructed fences using unapproved designs or beyond the boundaries of their plots, thereby encroaching on the roads would be served notices with durations within which the errors must be corrected.
While stressing that all such illegally erected structures would be demolished after the expiration of the durations on the notices, Mr Akan Okon noted that the state government would not allow indiscriminate erection of structures and uncontrolled development within and around the estate to ensure sanity of the estate environment and safety of the occupants.
Mr Akan Okon later addressed a cross section of some occupants of the estates who out of curiosity followed the delegation wherever they went.
He urged them to keep faith with the Udom Emmanuel administration and abide by the regulations of the estate for their good.
The commissioner was accompanied to the Idu Uruan Mass Housing Estate inspection by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Special Duties, Engr. Efiong Efiakedoho and other management staff of the ministry.
