EKET YOUTHS BEGIN DOOR-TO-DOOR CAMPAIGN FOR GOV EMMANUEL

Akwa Ibom State youths under the aegis of Eket Senatorial District Youth Assembly (ESDYA), have re-iterated their resolve to stand by the state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, to ensure he has a smooth sail for eight uninterrupted years, saying they have already flagged –off a door-to-door campaign to sensitize people in the District of the Governor’s lofty programmes in the state.

The youths made this disclosure during a visit to the Transition Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Area, High Chief William Mkpah, in his office to confer on him the 2016 Chairman of the Year Award.

The youths also celebrated the sterling qualities of Chief William Mkpah who they noted had been very at the vanguard of mobilizing support for the Governor since 2013 as a grassroot foot soldier.

President of the Assembly, Evangelist Joe Mbong, recounted that the Ibeno council helmsman had been exceptional, in ensuring that peace and security is restored and maintained in the hitherto volatile coastal community, and harnessing the youth of his area to channel their energies into profitable vocations and handworks.

Among other achievements of Chief Mkpah, the Assembly noted, were the scholarship schemes to youths in tertiary institutions, his wife’s support facilities for widows and less privilege persons, re-habilitation of the Ndito Eka Iba market that was razed by fire, rehabilitation of a collapse church building in the area, among others.

The Assembly stated that apart from canvassing support for the Governor, the group has saddled itself with various social awareness campaigns against militancy, vandalism, cultism, kidnapping, prostitution among other unwholesome practices.

While conferring on him a patron of the Assembly, they also solicited for assistance from the council helmsman for the media coverage and sponsorship of their enlightenment programmes.

Responding, High Chief Mkpah expressed pleasant surprise on the honour accorded him by the youths who cut across the 12 local government areas of the district, describing him as a product of the youths.

He recounted that, as a youth leader in his area, he was able to organize the youths into an organized committee, raised their profile and got them better offers from the oil exploration companies in the area, adding that their efforts paid off through the various social amenities attracted to the area.

He thanked them for the support for Governor Emmanuel, describing him as that good leader able to manage the affairs of his people well even in the face of economic crises.
