An alleged phone thief in the University of Uyo, has met waterloo, following his apprehension by male students of the institution, in the wee small hours of Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 2am, at the popular "Room 49-50" lecture hall of the institution, when a female student who had gone for night studies at the said lecture hall, raised alarm of alleged 'fingering' by the suspect, while asleep.
This reporter gathered that the suspect who missed a lucky escape, was immediately captured and beaten mercilessly by angry male students in the lecture hall, who had already identified him as a notorious phone thief in the institution.
Accordingly to an eye witness who would not want his name mentioned, "the guy (referring to the suspect) was fingering a girl who was sleeping in this hall, and wanted to escape when the girl shouted, but fortunately, he was caught by our guys in the hall."
"This guy is a criminal and has been stealing phones in this school since last year. He came to ECN Block last week and packed all the phones. It's good for him, they should even kill him", he added.
On interrogation, the suspect refused disclosing his name, but however, after severe torturings, revealed he is a Public Administration student at Uyo City Polytechnic, a sister institution to the University of Uyo.
It would be recalled that recently, robbers had stormed the Economic Lecture Hall (ECN Block) of the institution, and carted away phones, laptops and other valuables from students who were reading in the Hall for the forthcoming first semester examination.
Similar cases have been recorded in other lecture halls and walkways in the institution, following with is now known as "Show me love" -a situation were students are being victimized and robbed on the spot, usually by a group of cultists.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been handed over to the institution's security unit and was undergoing further interrogations, as at the time of filing this report
Efforts to speak with the school's security officials proved abortive, as claimed not being authorised to speak on the matter.
