When Akwa United Football of Uyo will filed out on Sunday January 29, against Katsina United at the Karkanda stadium in Katsina in a week five fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League, they will be hoping to get the kind of result they had at the same venue last season.
In the 2015/2016 NPFL season, Akwa United recorded a 1-3 away win against El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri who were playing their home matches at the Karkanda stadium in Katsina.
Returning to the same venue to face newly promoted Katsina United, players of Akwa United are optimistic that the they can pick their first three points of the season at the same venue they recorded their only away win last season.
Having picked just two points from a possible twelve so far this season, coach Abdul Maikaba has charged his boys to put their disappointing start to the season behind them and rekindle their winning spirit by picking all three points against Katsina United.
Speaking ahead of the match, Akwa United's defender Ariwachukwu Emmanuel said " there is something to play for against Katsina United. We know the importance of this match so we have resolved to go all out and get all three points".
The defender who has played three matches so far this season continued " we had a big win here in Katsina last season against El Kanemi and we believe that the miracle of last season will repeat itself when we play Katsina United".
Also speaking, team captain Otobong Effiong maintained that their winless run in the league will come to an end on Sunday " we are yet to win a match this season but that will come to an end on Sunday when we take on Katsina United. We really want to win this match and kick start our season. Our fans deserve something and we are committed to making them proud by winning matches so as to give them something to cheer about".
The 2015 Federation Cup champions is the only club in the league without a win while Katsina United have won each of their last two home matches this season.
